Children’s Educational Programs
Make the programs of the Dundas Museum & Archives part of the educational plan for your classroom. The educational programs connect young people with their community and its history in fun, hands-on fashion. Activities are based on the learning objectives of the Ontario Curriculum.
Adventures in History!
Topics and teaching methods are geared are based on goals of the Ontario curriculum.
- They help develop young peoples' powers of perception, analysis, imagination and creativity.
- The students' participation and questions are welcomed and encouraged.
- Programs are built on the children's own knowledge, skills and values, encouraging development of personal connections with the past.
- Programs can be tailored to the needs of your group.
- Scouting, guiding and pre-school groups are welcomed.
- The Museum's extensive reference library includes current resources students in the area of First Nations, Black history and pioneer life particularly geared to elementary students.
Duration: 1.5 hours
Number of Children: Maximum of 32
Cost: $3 per child; There is no charge for the adults accompanying.

Through fun, hands-on opportunities students will explore village life in the 1800’s. The roles and responsibilities of significant people in the community of the past will be investigated, and compared to the present day. The doctor, firefighter, police officer and postmaster will be of particular focus.

Early Settlement: Home in the Valley
Grades 2 & 3
This program introduces students to the life and challenges of a new settler in the early 1800’s. The students will discover what life was like for children at work and play, including games, music and an exploration of museum exhibits. Come join us for a journey into the past!

‘I’m a Citizen!’ A Look at Our Government United Empire Loyalists
Grade 5
Students will learn about the three levels of government in Ontario. With plenty of fun hands-on activities, including a museum scavenger hunt and skits, this program will emphasize basic government roles and responsibilities while teaching students about important historic figures and events in the community.
