A Christmas Carol ~ An Evening With Charles Dickens
Saturday, December 3, 2011

Dundas Town Hall Auditorium (Wheelchair Accessible)
7:30 pm.

Canadian actor, John Huston, returns to the Auditorium of the Dundas Town Hall
in this acclaimed, one-man show.

and featuring the music of Pearls of Time

'Better than Broadway!'
That’s how Will Reuter describes John Huston’s rendition of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Mr Reuter, a Dundas resident who is a book binder and printer, says he has seen many theatrical presentations, both professional and amateur. He recalls watching famed British actor Patrick Stewart’s dramatic reading of the much-loved tale on a Broadway stage, but feels the Huston version far surpasses it. “This is a wonderful re-creation of Dickens by such an accomplished actor,”said Mr. Reuter. "He has an amazing voice, but never lets it get in the way of the words. You can literally see the characters.”

”I’ve never before experienced magic like I did that night,”
says Jean Murray of her reaction to the performance.” It was like being transported back in time. He held the audience in his hand. At times, you couldn’t hear a breath drawn in the room.”

Period music will also be a feature during the evening. Pearls of Time, a local group that specializes in interpretations of Victoria era music, will play before the performance and during intermission. Group member Judy Morphet said that among other songs, they plan to play strains of 'Barbara Allen', an old Scottish ballad that was heard in the 1951 film version of A Christmas Carol.

The National Post offers critical praise for Mr Huston’s work: “Powerful one-man theatre...in the hands of a master storyteller.”

A wonderful Christmas tradition. A superb evening. Don't miss it!
